Pre Revenge of the Sith: Far From Pleased

After the briefing with Master Windu, Obi-Wan, though still worn out from the healing trance, sought out his former apprentice, wanting to solve the mystery behind the attack on Sabé's person.

He was far from surprised to sense Anakin in Senator Amidala's private quarters. This was just what he needed. . .

He didn't hesitate to promptly return to his wife's quarters upon the completion of his meeting with the Chancellor. As always the meeting went well and to his relief the elderly man as always was understanding of his situation, offering him the support and wisdom that the troubled Jedi needed. Leaving him feeling a bit more at peace with himself and the situation at hand as he parted ways with the Chancellor.

He still couldn't believe that his former master would actually consider helping the traitor after all she had done to both the Republic and more importantly Padme. But nothing could prepare him for this new revelation.

"Why didn't you tell me this sooner?"

He exclaimed in surprise as he pulled slightly away from Padme's embrace upon hearing her exclamation. This was unexpected and certainly no less disconcerting.

"How could I Ani? I was under strict order not to speak of this to anyone. Not even all of the Jedi council knew. I only found out because I had to work her schedule around her missions."

He frowned as he sighed deeply. He didn't like having information withheld from him even if it was out of necessity.

"I still don't see why you couldn't have at least warned me that there was a decoy. It's not like I would have said a word about how I knew."

He explained as Padme casted him a concerned look.

"I didn't want you to get into trouble. It was all so tightlipped that even I wouldn't have been aware of it if it wasn't for the fact Sabe is my Principle Handmaiden."

Anakin frowned at her words not wanting to discuss the matter of Sabe further but feeling that he must.

"I don't trust her. She's already threatened to expose us twice now."

He remarked quietly as Padme casted him a confused and concerned look before drawing him close as she rested her head on his chest instantly setting the fire within at ease.

"She wouldn't dare do such a thing Ani, I've known her all my life it's not like her at all."

"How can you be so certain?"

He remarks quietly in her hair, as the old fears of losing his angel once more returns. But his wife sensing this only tightened her embrace as she casted him a loving smile.

"My love you worry too much. She is no threat to us, she promised me she would not speak a word about our marriage. Sabe's word is sacred to her she will not back down."

"Then why the threats? Hmm? Why is she trying to turn you and Obi-Wan agianst me?"

He remarked in frustration as Padme stroked his cheek gently.

"She's not trying to turn me against you Anakin. Even if she wanted to it would be impossible. You hold my heart and nothing is going to change that."

He relaxed at her words feeling touched by them as he smiled enjoying the peace that always seemed to exude from her presence. Touching her cheek he is about to lean in to kiss her lips when the door chimed causing him to pull away in frustration. He instantly reconizes the signature and sighs. Perfect timing as always.

"It's Obi-Wan."

He stated dryly as Padme furrowed her brow the dissappointment hinted in her eyes but soon masked as she watched as Dorme passed by the enterance to the living room to get the door.

'Yes,' Obi-Wan replied simply. The hallway of the senatorial suites was not exactly the best place for this conversation either, so they walked to a nearby meeting room which happened to be vacant.

'After reporting the success of our mission to Master Windu and going over the details, there is one matter that escapes me. I thought perhaps you could shed some light on it.'

He faced Anakin with a furrowed brow. 'What exactly happened in the prison cells before I arrived?' Master Windu had asked him about it as well, wondering why the handmaiden spy was the only one of their party injured.

Anakin fell silent as he followed his former master. If there was one thing he had learnt over the years about Obi-Wan is that silence spoke volumes and in this moment it was speaking entire novels. Not exactly a good sign to say the least but he kept it to himself for the moment. As they entered the vacant meeting room he took a deep breath forcing himself to be calm for the storm that was certain to come. He wished Padme could be here, her presence was always so soothing and he knew she would understand. She always did and it only made him love her all the more for it.

But she was not here now and Obi-Wan's directness of question demanded his attention.

"She was making threats about Senator Amidala."

He stated simply leaving out the obvious fact the threat was more directed at him. He didn't want to discuss the matter but knew he had to stick to the truth or as close to it as possible.

"She was acting as a traitor to her mistress and to the Republic."

'Threats? Traitor?' Obi-Wan gasped.

How could Anakin say such a thing about Sabé? She was fiercely loyal to the senator and her duties. She would die to protect her and had show so on countless occassions. Needless to say this assumption did not sit well with Obi-Wan. He would have to do more than bombard him with false declarations.

'You enforced violence against an innocent woman, Anakin.'

"Innocent!? You really believe she is innocent?"

Anakin exclaimed in shock and disbelief. He couldn't believe he had was hearing this from his former master no less. The little witch really was poisoning his mind!

"Don't you see what she's trying to do? She pretends to be all innocent, playing self-rightous and perfect on her throne of ice, but she is nothing more then a snake! It's all part of her act! She's trying to turn you against me, just as she tried to turn Padme against me!

I warned her to stay away from you, that I would not stand by and let her play her little games. She claims to be all dutiful and rightous yet she doesn't hesitate to chase you around like some sort of rodent figuring stupidly that for whatever reason she can turn your head. Even now she knows she doesn't stand a chance, so now she is trying to turn you against me!

She has even resorted to blackmailing me should I warn you of her intentions! Did you really think i was going to stand by and tolerate such lies!?"

He exlaimed hsi temper rising with each word till he was almost yelling in frustration. Finally he calms himself slightly as he admits in more calm tones.

"You are like a brother to me, and I will not let her take you from me."

Obi-Wan was gobsmacked at what Anakin was saying to him. He could not believe what he was hearing. Turning Padmé and him against Anakin? Why would she do such a thing? How could Anakin believe this of her, the woman he loved?

No, no, I will not believe it...I cannot... he thought, shaking his head. He moved away from Anakin, shaking his head. Obi-Wan had not ever felt such deception from her. He was as close to her as he was to Anakin, but in a different way... Their connection... He would know. He would know if one of them was lying. He would know if they were keeping things from him...wouldn't he?

'Anakin, you don't know what you're saying...Surely--' he began, but Anakin went on to say she was blackmailing him. 'Blackmail?' he breathed. But Anakin wasn't lying to him. He sensed it. Why? I don't understand, he thought. Why would she blackmail Anakin?

But Anakin was aware of Sabé feelings for him and that was the crux of the problem. This is all my doing, he thought. I should never have encouraged her... Though as much as it pained him, he would have to put an end to it. He could not endanger her further, lest Anakin become volatile again nor could he sacrifice her good name.

'You will not lose me, Anakin,' he stated in a firm, but low voice. It bothered Obi-Wan that his former padawan still had issues with letting people go. It was becuase he had started training when he was too old. His attachment to his mother and now to Padmé and to him as well...it could prove detrimental if he didn't learn to keep it in line. He may be a Jedi Knight, but he still had much to learn.

He crossed his arms, finally looking back at him. 'You should be more trusting of others, more optimistic, instead of seeing the worst. It will help calm your mind.'

Anakin was too furious to notice the shift in his master's thoughts as he continued his rant before finally managing to regain some semblence of calm.

It was hard to admit to his fears to swallow his pride long enough to accept the fact that despite all the grandous titles and demands that were bestowed upon him, ultimately he was just another human being. Finally he fell silent his eyes falling to his feet as he turned almost sheepish. Not for guilt at his actions of earlier for in truth the little snake did deserve as much if not more, rather the fact he had just admitted one of his greatest fears. Obi-Wan and Padme were all he had left in this world the only two people who mattered to him. He could let it all go in a heartbeat if it was necessary, but not them. They were his family and even his former Master had to admit that they were practically brothers.

But despite his fears Anakin heard Obi-Wan's firm and quiet remark and couldn't help feel a little comforted by them. But at his final words Anakin nodded slightly, surely he should know this already but Padme's principle handmaiden was clever and sly. She knew how to slip her hooks into the unsuspecting and though Obi-Wan was hardly an easy man too fool his need to only see the good in people made him easy prey.

"I try master. Its just hard to do when there is so many mind games being played.

I just dont want you to fall prey to hers thats all."

He admitted quietly.

'You don't need to worry yourself over this, Anakin. I will speak to her once she's no longer in the medical centre and let her know her "mind games" aren't going to be tolerated.' Though he wouldn't use those exact words, he knew the confrontation would have a similiar effect.

It was probably for the best anyway. Obi-Wan did not believe he was catering to Anakin's will.

The waves of relief practically poured off of Anakin to Obi-Wan's words. But it soon faded away as he realized that Sabe wouldn't so easily back down from her games. Knowing her she'd try to turn it around play the innocent act and no doubt try to trick Obi-Wan once more.

"She's only going to try and play her tricks again if you talk to her. I think I should come with you, to ensure she doesn't attempt to try anything."

He said firmly while inwardly pleased that his former master was going to take inititative on the matter but still fearful he may fall prey yet again to her innocent act.
