Pre Revenge of the Sith: Behind the Curtains

The news isn’t unexpected, but it isn’t exactly welcomed either. If Sabe was really honest with herself this entire business was a dreaded one. She wasn’t used to feeling so helpless, so frustrated and so out of touch with any situation. Usually there was always a way out an option to fall back on. But this matter was entirely different. Then again Sabe knew she shouldn’t be so surprised by this feeling either. It seemed anything that pertaining to Padme and Anakin always left her feeling this way.

But this is far bigger then anything she had dealt with in her life. Though try as she may Sabe didn’t know how to handle it and it frightened her more then anything in her life. She tried so hard to turn a blind eye to it all forcing herself to believe the Senator’s weak cover-up and white lies as to why she has been ill every day for the past couple of weeks. The other handmaidens noticed this too and it caused more then a little concern.

Now only after much nagging, even more less then subtle hints, her best friend finally listened to Sabe and went to see her physician late the night before, upon completing the meetings she had to attend. The response was positive leaving Sabe’s former queen both overjoyed and fearful for the future at the same time.

“You were right Sabe.”

The weak voice from behind the doors of the fresher in Padme’s quarters catches the handmaiden’s attention. Sabe however is already aware of the results having witnessed some of symptoms in her sister Leesol long before she gave birth to her nephew. Yet she could not find a response for hearing it so easily confirmed leaves her speechless. So instead she waits patiently as the Senator emerges still looking a bit pale, but managing to regain some color in her cheeks once more.

“Are you alright?”

She asks as Padme gives a shaky sigh.

“This is normal apparently. I should be expecting this ‘morning sickness’ as she refers to it for a bit longer.”

Sabe watches in silent confusion as the Senator glances away but not before her Principle handmaiden notices her trying to blink away the tears.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do Sabe.”

She murmurs softly her hand drifting to her mouth as she bites her lip no longer paying heed to the tears that begin to spill down her cheek in silence. Startled Sabe tries to hide her own fears at the sight of the Senator so emotional. This isn’t like her the handmaiden thinks in concern. If anything the more complicated the situation the more stoic Padme became. Even Sabe’s sisters would often joke that only Padme rivaled her when it came to be being calm under fire. But this, this was nothing like the strong queen she knew for almost all her life. She seemed almost fragile somehow and it once more left Sabe both unsettled and helpless.

But not one to remain in such a position Sabe soon moves to her friend side as she quietly embraces her trying to offer comfort in anyway she could.

“Padme it is going to be alright, I am working on the situation. We will come up with a plan to deal with this I promise you.”

She says quietly as Padme closes her eyes nodding slightly though the tears continue to fall.

“…I wish Anakin was here…”

She whispers as it takes all of Sabe’s strength not to curl a lip in disgust at the Jedi Knight’s name. Biting her tongue she refrains from venting her frustration knowing that this time it isn’t just Anakin’s fault, both were guilty of being irresponsible and now they both would have to pay it’s price.

“I’m sorry Padme, but even in his absence this matter must be dealt with and soon.”

Padme draws back her expression turning more calm as she manages to pulls herself together as best she can.

“I know…It’s just a little overwhelming right now.”

Sabe nods in understanding as she buries her own fears and concerns to help her friend formulate the plans and expectations of what is to come.

====

Things didn’t turn out as Sabe had hoped and it both frustrated and concerned her deeply. The Senator didn’t take to either of her plans very well and in truth had Sabe not voluntarily departed from the Senator’s quarters at Padme’s request, she was certain she would have been thrown out.

”You can’t be serious Sabe!”

Her lady’s voice still echoes in her mind hours later as the disbelief, insult and pain so evident that it still leaves Sabe feeling less then two inches tall.

”I’m sorry but I’m running out of ideas here. I agree a leave of absence would be suspicious but if we make it appear as though you are to be wed to another it would take the shine off this entire situation. I’m not saying that you actually marry another man but it would make it official and you wouldn’t have to hide the fact you are with child. As it is you already said you wish to raise the child as your own instead of placing the baby for adoption. It will just appear less scandalous this way. You are after all in the public eye and as such this is going to be frown upon.”

Even now Sabe can’t help but wince as she can almost see Padme’s hurt expression how she struggled to keep her emotions in check. The Senator already knew what Sabe thought of her husband and though she was only trying to help it would seem she had crossed the line without meaning to. Sighing deeply she tries to bury the memories of the discussion but it continues to play in her mind.

”Do you think so little of me that you would believe I’d do such a thing?”

“No Padme of course not, surely you know me better then that! I’m just trying to find a way to make things easier for you and the child that is all.”

“I’m not going to play the charade of being married to another when I’m already married to Anakin. We will just have to find another way around this.”

Sabe had frowned deeply at the time, once more cursing Anakin for being so selfish, all the while feeling equally shamed of Padme for letting her emotions run away with her so badly. However in that moment she didn’t know what else to suggest and frustrated at her lack of control of the situation as well as her fear for her friend she had lashed out.

”But you are already playing a charade Padme don’t you understand? How long are you going to keep up this act that you and Anakin aren’t together? This child is going to completely destroy the façade and we need to find a way to preserve what’s left of it before it’s too late.

How could you both have been so irresponsible?”

“Handmaiden Nabish, you are dismissed.”

Looking back Sabe wished there could be some way she could rewind time and take back what was said but it is too late now. Even in those moments she didn’t need to know what Padme was thinking, for her hurt and guilty expression spoke volumes as well the tears that Sabe knew were going to spill at any moment and it made her regret her every word.

Taking another deep breath Sabe’s hand unconsciously finds it’s way to the small woven but braided ribbon that dangles from the blade that rests by her side. Normally she only wore the sword when she was on her way to train the handmaiden initiates or to spar, but in this moment it gave her a sense of comfort she needed for her troubled thoughts. Her fingers intertwine with the worn woven ribbon absently as it seeks the small part of the material that is so worn through from her touch that it’s true contents barely peeks out.

The feel of the braid instantly help sooth Sabe’s troubled thoughts as she can’t help but think of where or rather whom it’s origin came from. She hopes he is alright and wishes she could speak to him of the matter at hand but Padme had made her promise specifically not to breath a word of this situation to him out of fear for Anakin. Though Sabe knew he would never do anything to place his former Padawan’s position as a Jedi in danger she wasn’t about to dishonor her promise to Padme either. The thought causes her to sigh again deeply as she heads towards the rock gardens that are near to the old Dojo where she trained.

However lost in her thoughts and the troubling revelations it held the former decoy leaves herself exposed and unawares as another quietly trails her from a safe distance away.

Obi-Wan was called back to Coruscant from the Outer Rim Sieges while he was in the middle of another mission. The other Jedi master who had been assigned to assist in comandeering the mission had been killed, which meant Obi-Wan had to leave Anakin in charge of a couple hundred thousand clone troopers of the Open Circle Fleet, but he trusted his padawan.

As always, on his brief return, he hoped he might run into Sabé, but had a bad feeling about it. He wassn't sure why, but he hesitated momentarily before heading to the senatorial sector.

Upon his arrival to the training area, he felt that familiar hum growing as he neared the dojo he so often found her in. But again, he was taken aback by the sense of dread as he palmed the door open.

He was so concentrated on this premonition that he did not notice he was being followed.

The walk through the gardens didn't help any and finally Sabe gives in to her urges and enters the main hall of the Dojo. She knows in truth she should meditate but her thoughts are too scattered and even finding her center is proving more difficult then Sabe is used to. So instead she quietly slips into the comforting clothes of her sparring outfit and twisting the ribbon/braid between her fingers she takes a deep breath and begins to train once more.

But just as she finds herself slipping into a more relaxed but rather offensive style of movement she feels the familar hum growing stronger and pausing Sabe turns around quietly to face the entrance debating whether it is wise to remain or to leave. Lowering her blade she takes a deep breath and tries to calm the dread that lingers in the pit of her stomach. Once more she would have to lie to him and once more he would eventually find out. After all something this obvious couldn't be hidden for long. Still ever the one to keep her loyalty in cue with her duties Sabe does her best to remain silent and cautious hoping somehow his presence would encourage a lighter frame of mind but knowing somehow even Obi-Wan wouldn't be able to lift her d.
----

Dorme watches Sabe from a distance and is hardly surprised at the sight of Obi-Wan. After having overheard the rather heated conversation between the principle handmaiden and the Senator Dorme couldn't help but feel pity for Padme's plight. She did her best to comfort the mother to be as best she could but in the end Padme requested to be alone for a bit and Dorme soon found herself once more on the hunt for the one who put her lady in such a distressed frame of mind. As fortune would have it, it didn't take long before she found the former decoy heading towards the Dojo she often visited.

Though it still bothered Dorme to spy on her former teacher she took pride in serving Padme and through her Anakin as well. She swore she would not fail and now is no different. Upon catching sight of the Jedi Master she promptly began to trail him instead noting that like Sabe he too was heading to the small Dojo. Which to the young handmaiden meant one thing. They were to meet, again.

Frowning slightly she feels a tinge of fear having overheard PAdme specifically demand that Sabe not breathe a word of her pregnancy to anyone especially Obi-WAn out of fear for Anakin's relations to her being exposed. Well if Sabe wouldn't keep to her word then it's only fair I warn them she inwardly surmises watching as Obi-Wan palms the door open.

She seemed more than a bit on edge, but was thankful he hadn't walked in on one of her training sessions. 'Hello,' he said simply. 'I hope I'm not interrupting. I just wanted to stop...' to see you '...since I was called back from the Outer Rim Sieges temporarily.'

He examined her expression carefully, trying to make out what was going on in her head.

She bows to him politely trying not to reveal the guilt that builds within or the annoyance that once more she has been placed in such a position that forces her to lie to her dear friend. Noting his pensive expression SAbe attempts to draw up the walls but knowing in truth it was rather futile at this point. STill she is careful to keep the memories buried deep just in case.

"Your presence is always welcome Master Kenobi."

She says politely already feeling her nerves starting to sooth though she remains guarded out of fear of exposing her friend's secret.

"I hope your presence here isn't because of an emergency."

She says as he admits to being summoned here but then at the realization that Anakin is no doubt near she forces herself not to frown.

"And Jedi Skywalker? Has he been called back as well?"

She asks in carefully nuetral tones inwardly seething deciding if he is indeed here as well she is going to stay in her fellow handmaiden's quarters to put even more distance between herself and the fiery Jedi.

'No, Anakin is still in the Sieges,' he replied, thinking gravely on the situation out there. 'We lost another Jedi Master recently.'

He stepped closer to her, feeling some of her disconcertment. 'I was called back as a favour and will have to leave again soon, but I sensed you were...on edge...' ...to say the least, he added silently.

She frowns deeply at his remarks as a rather cold thought enters her mind to which she promptly buries feeling a tinge of shame at carrying such a thought. But at the thought of another Jedi master lost Sabe casts Obi-Wan a sad look.

"I'm sorry to hear that...I can only imagine how things are on the front...Sometimes i find myself wishing I could be there...At least I'd know my enemy."

She tries to ignore the pleasure she feels as he nears slightly. Once more she felt as though she didn't deserve such peace and to his explanations she glances away feeling a sensation fo de ja vu. Returning his expression she shakes her head choosies her words carefully knowing he could easily pick up her thoughts without meaning to because of their bond.

"It's been a trying day thats all, nothing worry yourself over."

She says offering a smile.

Upon closer inspection, he notices the sword in her hands. It is one he hadn't seen before, or at least if he had the handle had been rebound.

'Is that a new blade?' he wondered aloud, hoping to break through the barrier she'd walled up.

She notices his eyes falling to her blade and she blushes deeply her expression turning sheepish.

"...Not exactly, I just had rebound the handle that is all. The old ribbons had worn too thin..."

She says almost shyly not wanting to admit that the ribbon was worn out from her constant need to twirl and twist it or rather the reason behind this little habit.

---

Outside Dorme remains silent and waiting blending in with the crowds far better this time then her previous attempt. Even Sache had admited to noticing a great improvement in her skills at 'melding' as she called it. However from the corner of her eyes she catches sight of a rather familar and sinister form and instantly begins to lose her nerve.

Sache had almost ended her training after Dorme admitted being caught for following Obi-Wan by the stern Jedi Master whom Sache called Master Windu. But given that Dorme's guilty concious forced her to fess up Sache gave her a second chance on the promise she would avoid following the Jedi in teh future. But then Anakin once more requested that she keep an eye on Obi-Wan and Sabe and torn between loyalties she chose the path of the misguided handmaiden believing her duties to Amidala included this as well.

Quietly she tries to slip away hoping not to have drawn any attention to herself this time.

Her sheepishness didn't register with him, but he asked, 'May I see it?'

Mace Windu wanted to speak with Obi-Wan before the next meeting. He had a personal favour to ask of him in regards to his former padawan who had perished in the Sieges.

His thoughts weighed on him. The news that one of his former padawans, who had become a great Jedi Master, died had only just reached his ears. He sought Obi-Wan for further details, painful that it might be, he had to know.

She nods slightly suddenly feeling very concious of the ribbon and inwardly dreading his laughter should he learn what purpose it really served. Still she wasn't about to be rude to her friend and so Sabe gently places it in his hand.

"Of course."

----
Dorme moves deftly through the wandering crowds her eyes still watchful for the Jedi Master she seeks to avoid. Mentally she prepares herself for the worse though inwardly knowing her midichlorian numbers aren't nearly high enough to have much effect should he wish to intrude.

He took the blade deftly in his hands, checking its weight. He swung it around a bit, swooshing through the air. He handed it back to her, the grip towards her. 'It's nicely balanced,' he remarked, smiling.

Mace boarded the transport that would take him from the area of Coruscant he had been meeting with another ambassador and their entourage in to the main senatorial buildings. He knew Obi-Wan said something about getting an update on security matters, which meant he would be in this particular building.

His footsteps echoed through the empty hallway as he followed Kenobi's signature. The dojo? he thought, considering that he might have made a mistake. Perhaps his contact hadn't shown, he surmised.

She watches him with baited breathe imagining that he must regard it as heavy and awkward by Jedi standards and yet still in awe with the grace that he handles the blade. It suited him only too well and for a moment she is silenced watching him her eyes sparkling as she admires his skills before he politely offers it back to her as she bows slightly.

"Thank you. It was actually made for me by my former teacher and mentor Tame. A gift for being accepted as Principle Handmaiden for Lady Amidala"

She explains quietly knowing her mentor would be more then a little humbled and touch to hear a Jedi pass such a compliment.

===

Wanting to escape the possible attentions of the Jedi but still determined to complete her mission Dorme slips inside and heads to the main hall where she knows her former mentor would be certainly near and of course the Jedi Master himself. Hopefully for now she could gather the information needed and then be on her way. The sooner the better, especially with the other Jedi master roaming the streets so near.

When she took the blade back in her hand, explaining how her mentor had given it to her, he spotted something...familiar. It couldn't be, could it?

'And which young padawan turned knight did you seduce into giving you that decoration?' he asked, pointing at the grip where part of a braid was peeking out.

Mace spotted someone move quite swiftly from one end of the hallway to the next. It was a woman, he quickened his pace towards her, finding her movements peculiar.

His question startles her and for a moment Sabe raises a brow before her eyes fall to the part of the ribbon that had already worn thin revealing a piece of the braid. Oh gods she inwardly thinks feeling her cheeks light up on fire as she bites her lip glancing down in embaressment.

"...You weren't supposed to know about that..."

She mutters feeling very much like a young girl whose crush had just learnt of her feelings for him. Though she is only too aware that he knows of her affections she can only imagine how silly he must think she is for holding onto such trinkets. Especially in such a fashion as though it were a charm...Whichin an sense it had become that for her.

"I know it's foolish...But..."

She shrugs as a shy smile plays on her lips as she remarks in barely audible tones.

"It calms me..."
====

Dorme stops dead in her tracks. Did she hear that right? Frozen she remains in position unaware of the nearing Jedi Master. It wasn't as if she doubted Anakin's words or her own instincts but this was definate proof. So she was trying to seduce him for her own purposes, but why? Did she not serve Amidala as much as she did? It made no sense but at the realization this could actually be a plot to seek revenge against Anakin Dorme finds that it may make more sense then she initially thought. However the realization leaves Dorme reeling and for a moment she is unable to stir herself from her thoughts.

Sabé's admission caused a wide smile to appear on his face. He most certainly didn't think it was foolish. And then she admitted, it calmed her, which struck a chord within him.

Taking a chance, he closed the space between them, wrapping his hand over hers which covered the portion of the handle she was embarrassed of. 'I'm glad,' he told her. 'I felt awful when I found the clasp you gave him had been lost.'

'Is there something I can help you with, young handmaiden?' Mace asked the woman he now recognised to be the very same he had run into before. He crossed his arms, frowning and looking quite stern.

He would not let her get away without a suitable explanation this time. He sensed Kenobi within the room this lady was spying on. Clearly she had an agenda having to the master Jedi and he would find out what it was.

His smile is neither teasing or mocking and it instantly sets her at ease, if anything it was understanding which only adds to her relief as she glances back up at him shyly. He steps closer to her and SAbe feels her heart jump as she enjoys his close proximity and even more so his hand that now slip over hers.

His words causes her to smile as she finds herself resisting the urge to touch his cheek as tempting it may be though her eyes sparkle at his words.

"Then it is a good thing that I was able to find something more lasting for the Knight in question."

She remarks softly remembering her own panicked moment when she thought she lost the braid all those years ago.
====

The sound of Mace's voice snaps her back to reality in a flash as Dorme knows instantly the show is over. At least I got the evidence needed she inwardly sighs before taking in his rather stern appearance that resembles another familar to her. Bowing slightly she says nothing unsure how to reply this time as she meekly shakes her head though her eyes flicker backto him once more. There was something oddly charming to be found in all this but she can't quite say what. Perhaps it is strong aure exuding or maybe because it reminds her of PAdme's own knight whatever the reason it causes her cheeks to warm at the thought as she is careful to keep her eyes now on her hands.

'Indeed,' he replied, looking into her dark eyes. Behind them, he found there was something she was hiding and it hadn't anything to do with his padawan braid.

'Something's happened,' he remarked, withdrawing his hand from her. He could sense it.

The young handmaiden didn't respond to his question and he thought perhaps he was being to intimidating. Mace backed off accordingly, hoping this would allow her to at least come forward about just what she was doing.

He kept his arms crossed and looked at her curiously.

She senses a shift in his d and instantly has her walls up once more as his simple remark sends a chill down her spine. Glancing away quickly she feels as though once more she is in the same position as she was a at the beginning of the war.

"...Yes. And once more I've been sworn to silence."

She states the agitation evident in her voice now as she sheathes her blade and folds her arms.

"I wish I had you're patience. I wish I didn't have to standby with my hands tied and play the game of the blindfold. Stumbling about blindly hoping that everything falls into place, praying that it will, because no one will listen to the advice you give.

To make matters worse I'm once more forced to balance loyalties between those who are worthy of it and to those who really have no idea what that word means."

She stops dead in her tracks realizing to her horror just how close she came to becoming a hypocrite herself. Sighing deeply she glances back to Obi-Wan as she once more chooses her words carefully.

"You will learn soon enough Obi-Wan what has happened. Just be watchful, and aware. Look for the clues, they are close to you and very close to me. In a few monthes you'll have the answer you seek. I can garentee it."

It's cryptic and she knows it but Obi-Wan is clever and she knows he will piece it together soon enough.
===

He backed off and Dorme couldn't help but be a little touched by his gesture. It is noble, hardly intimidating when he could have easily done so. It only adds to his charm and her cheeks warm at the thought. But he is also waiting for her to speak. She glances back to him as she bites her lip. She can't betray the Senator or her knight and so she quietly explains what little she can.

"A friend was concerned for his safety and had asked me to watch out for him. That is all."

The conflict within her made him feel for her. His heart went out to her. He knew all to well how difficult it could be being divided like this. 'I understand if you can't say anything,' he said, but then she went on to reveal a hidden message.

It took a moment for him to process it, but once he did, his eyes grew wide at the new information.

This was obviously about the senator and 'they' being close, being people, not a thing which meant Anakin. A few months? Anakin and his wife and a few months...

Then disappointment returned to him. Obi-Wan thought he should be used to this feeling, but some much good had happened since those days when Anakin was a reckless padawan. He had grown up and matured. He had become one of the finest Jedi Obi-Wan ever knew, his friend, his brother... He hadn't thought this one through, the consequences...

'A "friend" of yours is concerned about Master Kenobi?' repeated Mace. He wondered if the girl was referring to herself. 'If they are concerned about him, then they should take this matter to the Council.'

She smiles at his gentle words appriciating the meaning behind them though inwardly she knows there is little it will do to help the situation. Angered by the events and the lack of responsibility shown between both her friend and his former Padawan, Sabe crosses the line she once so desprately avoided. Yet even as she begins something holds her back and so the revealing of the secret becomes a game of words.

Yet as she turns to face him the shame creeps into her features, her anger now deflating into shame as she can see teh surprise registering in Obi-Wan's eyes only to be filled with disappointment.

"...I shouldn't have done that..."

She says miserably as she sighs looking at her hands before closing her eyes.

"This is twice now that I've found myself in this position and twice that i've failed her...And yet..."

She bites her lip as she remarks softly unable to look at him now.

"...I am so tired...of watching from the sidelines as everythign seems to spiral out of control"
----

Dorme nods feeling more then a little torn now. His final remarks seems to worsen this feeling, in truth she can't blame him for not going to the council and yet part of her wants to be honest with the man before her. He didn't seem to fit the typecast set for the Jedi and in some ways he reminded her of Anakin only this one seemed more approachable. A strange train of thought since the last time he spoke to her.

"...yes sir."

She says quietly before glancing down to her hands again.

"I was asked to do this as a favor. I only wanted to help nothing more."

She admits quietly careful not to mention Anakin's name or the reason's behind her actions.

'I know,' he replied gently. 'But there is only so much either of us can do. Only so much advice we can give. And if those people fail to heed our advice, that's their perogative. We can't give ultimatums or dictate their lives either.' Though part of him would very much like to do so in Anakin's case.

'If there is anything I can do to assist you in anyway, please don't fail to contact me.' He meant every word of it. No matter what the senator decided to do about this situation, whether it be Sabé posing as her or another person, whether she needed to be spirited away... He could only imagine what advice Sabé had given her.

'Would you care to enlighten me just what Master Kenobi is in danger of?' Mace was so focused on this suspicious girl that he failed to glance inside the room where Kenobi was speaking in close quarters with another of Senator Amidala's handmaidens.

She smiles slightly at his words finding more comfort in them then she felt deserving to recieve. She knows what he says is the truth and though she still chastizes herself for her actions, Sabe finds some guilty relief in knowing she isn't the only one in this position. Obi-Wan had far more patience and experience in such htings then she did and SAbe appriciated the fact he could share his wisdom with her. Somehow it made things seem less complicated then they were and in a sense lifted her spirits despite the fact it still changed nothing.

"Thank you. I guess I just needed to hear it from someone else."

At his remarks of assistance her smile turns gentle as she casts him a sincere and grateful look.

"Thank you. I hope you know I am just as willing to help should you ever need me."

She says in allsincerity inwardly touched by his gentle words.

----

Dorme sighs she doesn't want to be in this position and yet this man seemed sincere enough, despite his obvious alligiance to the Jedi. but then again Anakin was too. If he hadn't spoke to his superiors about this matter he obviously had his reasons.

"I don't know the details exactly. I was just told there was a possible threat being posed to him. That someone was trying to dissuade him..."

She says carefully trying to think of some excuse to bow out and depart anything to leave and yet part of her still wants to stay. There was something peaceful about this man that drew her to him. If only she coul say why...

He smiled at her, grateful that he was able to ease her conscience. Her offer also touched him. 'Thank you,' he replied.

As much as he wanted to stay, he knew he ought to get going, for he had one more meeting before heading back to the Sieges. he wanted to pull her into a hug, but knewit was neither the time nor the place for such gestures. 'And if you feel stressed out, you can always pull my hair out instead of your own, right?' He winked at her, moving to the doorway.

Mace nodded thoughtfully at her words, sensing sincerity and truth in her words. He was about to probe her mind for more information, but thought an open testament, willfully given would be best. 'May I enquire as to what this person was trying to dissuade him from?'

She bows understanding the need to keep up appearances but her eyes still shine revealing his words helped more then even she thought. Though tempted to pull him in for a hug as well she too refrains bowing again as she giggles to his parting words her cheeks warming at his wink.

"I think I'd prefer to vent my stress by more 'civilized' means as you say. Like sparring the next time you are free?"

She grins grateful to have had this moment and once more surprised how much better she feels for it.
----

Dorme furrows her brow recalling the discussion that led to her being in this position and bowing her head she once more speaks the truth though refraining from the detaills.

"...His loyalties is all I was told."

He bowed to her, unable to stop grinning. 'It would be an honour, my lady,' he said at her request for a spar.

Obi-Wan couldn't help casting another lookat her before he left.

'Loyalties,' mused Mace. He smirked and shook his head. 'I think you've picked the wrong target. Your efforts would be more beneficial watching after Skywalker. Are you familiar with him?'

Obi-Wan exited the room at that moment. 'Master Windu,' He made a slight bow to Dormé. 'My lady,' he greeted her politely before turning his attentions back to Windu. 'I was just on my way to a meeting with Master Yoda. He's in the room 775 with the ambassadors from Dantooine.'

'Do you have a spare moment beforehand?' Mace's thoughts returned to his former padawan. 'If you would excuse us, my lady,' Mace said to Dormé, bowing.

She returns his smile readily as she watches him depart inwardly hoping against hope he would cast her one last look. Then as if he had heard her thoughts the Jedi Master casts her a final glance and is parted ways with a gentle smile from the handmaiden who watches him in contented silence.
----

Dorme says nothing but at his mentioning of Anakin her eyes waver slightly as she nods weakly in reply her heart racing now. Did they know? surely they couldn't have...Taking the risk she politely asks inwardly hoping to somehow help the Jedi knight.

"Yes sir. May I ask why? He is in need of observation that is?"

As Obi-Wan approaches her heart sinks and Dorme thought she was about to be ruined. However none of this comes to pass and the handmaiden instead politely bows to Obi-Wan in greeting before bowing to Mace Windu in departure as she watches them silently depart feeling as though a piece of her had somehow left with the Jedi Master who had spoken to her.
