Pre Attack of the Clones: A Knight's token lost...but found
Sabe tries to control the rush of panic that threatens to overwhelm her as once more she quietly rummages through the many hidden pockets of her dress. But what she seeks is not to be found despite her many attempts to locate the item in question. Only after the sixth desperate try does it suddenly dawn on her that the small trinket was last left in the hip pocket of her light blue robes that she had changed out of earlier in the day. A rush of relief pours over the decoy as she realizes in her haste she had forgotten to move it to her current deep green robes.
Frantically she rushes out of the queen’s chambers and back to the handmaiden’s quarters. Though she knew her “sisters” would laugh if they saw their normally poised Principle handmaiden like this over a worn out old braid she didn’t care.
For Sabe the braid was far more then just a lock of hair woven. It was a small token of admiration and friendship, built on mutual respect and understanding. It was all she had, save for the memories of the young Jedi knight who came into her life for a few fateful days over seven years ago.
Yet as she rummages through her clothes Sabe promptly realizes much to her horror the silky blue dress is no where to be found. A new pang of fear grips her heart as the panic floods her thoughts. Desperately she moves between the closets trying to locate the gown hoping to find it misplaced in one of the other closets. Perhaps I accidentally placed it in one of the other baskets in my rush she thinks trying to calm her shattered nerves.
“Sabe what are you looking for?”
The sound of Eirtae’s voice pulls Sabe out of her frantic thoughts though only briefly as she continues to toss clothes about in her hunt for the cherished braid.
”Eirtae, the light blue dresses we wore earlier today, where are they?”
The blonde haired handmaiden motions to the door that leads into the living quarters which is no promptly filling with Sabe’s fellow companions who are drawn to the frantic sound of Sabe’s voice. After all it wasn’t often she ever got so panicked and so it raises much curiosity.
“Yane took them already to be cleaned. Why?”
Sabe’s eyes widen as she feels her heart jump to her throat.
“There is something I forgot in one of the pockets.”
She admits as calmly as she can though she can feel her cheeks warming in shame as Rabe enters frowning at the mess that greets her eyes.
“What are you doing?”
She inquires but Sabe too focused on her search just ignores her.
“Eirtae, do you know if Yane checked all the pockets of those dresses?”
Rabe already picking up the strewn about dresses casts Sabe a sharp glance as she comments indignantly.
“Yane didn’t but I did. If you’re looking for that ratty hair piece, I saved you the trouble and tossed it. It was disgusting.”
Sabe feels the colour drain out of her cheeks as she stares at Rabe in horror.
“You threw it out!?”
She barely whispers her expression causing Rabe to stop in mid action as she stares at Sabe with a raised brow.
“Yes. It was too destroyed for even me to repair. Judging by its appearance that extension piece was probably been to the cleaners too many times to count. It’s not even the right shade anymore, looks almost blonde.
Really Sabe you shouldn’t leave your things in your pockets like that…”
But Sabe doesn’t hear the rest of Rabe’s remarks as she moves quickly to the garbage only to discover its empty before rushing out into the main living quarters as she soon notices all the garbage has been emptied. She tries to maintain some semblance of composure but her eyes waver slightly as she clenches her jaw.
I will not crack, I am not weak. It is only a braid. What matters is that I still have the memories she tells herself silently over and over again.
“Did CT-10 empty out the trash?”
She asks careful to keep the waver out of her voice as her eyes fall onto Sache who emerges from the makeshift meditation room.
“Only as she always does, why did you lose something?”
Rabe having left the walk in closet room remarks tersely obviously upset for having to clean up after Sabe’s frantic tirade.
“I accidentally tossed out one of her hair pieces that’s all. It was too ratty for words and the color had even faded from it because it was in the wash too many times.”
“It’s of personal sentiment to me.”
Sabe explains quietly her voice barely able to hide the pain she feels as she continues her desperate search.
“…I didn’t know I wish you would have told me Sabe I didn’t realize…”
Rabe says apologetically as Sabe gives a shaky sigh of disappointment realizing after looking in all the garbage’s that it is indeed lost.
“It’s alright you didn’t know.”
She says simply forcing her thoughts under control until all that remains is the steely resolve necessary to continue onwards.
“What is done is done.”
She states before she casts a rather guilty and shamefaced Rabe a look that is a bit more understanding. After all it was too late and soon they would be departing for yet another meeting leaving little time for the mourning of sentimental things lost to a past that may never become a part of the future.
