Pre Attack of the Clones: Gains and Losses
Obi-Wan and his apprentice spent much time on the core planet of Mawan, attempting to restore peace to their people. They tracked the source of unrest all the way back to Coruscant where they discovered the Sith fan, Granta Omega, planned on not only causing civil unrest on Mawan, but to impress a Sith Lord. He captured Anakin, but Master Yaddle died trying to save him.
Once Obi-Wan rescued his padawan, they tracked Omega to Korriban. He was meeting with a Sith lord in a tomb in the Valley of the Dark Lords. Obi-Wan and Anakin prepared to face down Omega and the Sith, but Omega had created a bioweapon which overheated and exploded before they had the chance. During the explosion, Anakin took out the harmed, but still deadly Sith supporter whilst Obi-Wan faced off the Sith lord who was attempting to escape.
During their intense duel, the Nabooan clasp that Sabé had given Obi-Wan before he departed from Naboo with Anakin five years ago broke off his belt and fell thousands of metres through the grates. Obi-Wan was concentrated on the battle and did not notice it fell. With yet another Sith destroyed and peace returned to the planet of Mawan, Obi-Wan and Anakin were eager to return home to Coruscant for a short leave of absence. After all, they had deserved it.
It wasn't until the day after their return, while Anakin was off with a few other padawans around his age for a training session (in which Anakin usually showed off newly acquired tricks) that Obi-Wan inspected his belt and saw that the gift of his dear friend was missing. His mouth dropped open as disappointment washed over him. 'Blast,' he cursed, fastening the belt around his waist.
'I thought you should have it because it suits you and the Order you serve...and so you won't forget me...'
He knew very well that it could have come off at any point in the last few days and he wouldn't have known. It could be anywhere now. And it was all he had of-- No, he chided himself. This is why Jedi aren't allowed many possessions. This is why Jedi are forbidden attachments. I have learnt my lesson. I should not value the tangible.
Courage through peace. Those were her very words.
As if the very memory of her words had an effect on his emotions, he was able to calm himself through the Force. He recalled the last time he saw her. Her barefeet in the grass, her smile, the nlight shining on her dark hair: it was a serene picture in his mind. He smiled.
'You remind me of the old legends spoken here...tales of the Old Guard who used to protect the Naboo.'
'Master?'
It was Anakin's voice.
Obi-Wan broke his trance and turned to look at his pupil. 'Yes, Anakin?'
'I'm sorry to interrupt, but Master Yoda said he wants to speak with you.'
'Thank you.'
Anakin shot him a questioning look before exiting the room. Something is weighing on his mind, he thought, though he wasn't sure exactly what. He sensed something from him that he hadn't felt for a long time. He couldn't put a name to it, but it was there all the same.
Obi-Wan exhaled slowly, trying to hold on to just one last image from the fading trance vision of her. It was only natural that some things would fade. While her face would age and change with time, the feelings she emanated would stay with him forever.
