Post Attack of the Clones: Downtime

After the battle of Geonosis, Obi-Wan returned to Coruscant with Master Yoda and met with the Jedi Council. Afterwards, he was sent to see a healer before being given time off. Anakin was also given leave to escort the senator back to her homeworld to see her family before returning to the political arena.

He shucked his Jedi cloak and boots before reclining on the couch in his quarters. His shoulder and thigh wounds were completely healed now, albeit a bit stiff and sore still.

Obi-Wan had to admit he wasn't completely shocked when his padawan arrived on Geonosis to 'save' him, nor was he all that surprised that the rescue attempt ended up with both him and the woman he was supposed to be protecting, chained up near him in the stadium.

Then the Jedi arrived, along with Master Yoda and the Clone army.

And then the confrontation with Dooku. Dooku must have invaded his thoughts, knowing exactly which shoulder to injure first: the one which had been aching him days ago.

If only Anakin would be more patient! But had Anakin not charged at Dooku, Obi-Wan might not have lived to see Master Yoda rescue them. But Obi-Wan couldn't say he was disappointed with his padawan, though he acted rashly.

The more disappointing aspect of the whole event was when he started ordering them to put the ship down to aid Senator Amidala. Anakin displayed blatant disregard for his training which was a huge slap in the face for Obi-Wan. Surely he had taught him better than that!

Now as he lay here, trying to cleanse his thoughts so he could meditate properly, strong emotions seem to permeate his mind. It was from Anakin. Anakin was surely pleased with himself and extremely happy. There were other emotions as well, but ones that Obi-Wan couldn't place. They were disconcerting though, to say the least.

He didn't learn anything from this, did he? Obi-Wan thought sardoncially. And now he's enjoying the presence of someone he's far too attached to with the approval of the Jedi Council None of this seemed to make any sense to Obi-Wan and it certainly didn't seem fair. He rubbed his brow, trying to put the feelings from Anakin into a box so he could ignore them and get some rest.

The events of the past few weeks were like a whirlwind for Sabe who felt as though she was caught in the middle of it. Even worse came the understanding that despite all their efforts, this was but the beginning.

The news of the events on Geonosis reached Sabe while doing recon pertaining to the movement of the droid arms. Though the battle was won, in its place began a war and the former decoy feared that they had only awoken the sleeping dragon.

Then there was the matter of the causalities. Because she was in transit under confidential circumstances all transmissions and messages were limited to say the least. As such her knowledge of the exact events was vague and it brought her both concern and relief.

The Senator though captured and sentenced to death in the gladiator ring had survived and was for the most part, unharmed. Even as she learnt of these news it took Sabe all of her control not to completely lose her temper at the Jedi Padawan for departing from his duties and then at Lady Amidala for being so foolish as to join Jedi Skywalker on his quests.

His duty is to protect you from harm, not lead you into it.

She stated evenly to her best friend and Senator who only frowned slightly in reply, before calmly telling her that there is more to the story and she would be updated on it once she returned from Naboo. Though she was grateful to see Padme safe and well the thought of all she had been through left Sabe reeling and more then a little upset.

'We go to all this trouble to ensure our lady's safety and for what? So she can run off not only to Tatooine but to Geonosis of all places because a half trained Jedi asks her to!? Unbelievable!"

Even as she quietly steps up the vast stairs of the Jedi temple the former handmaiden replays the conversation or rather her ranting to Sache in her mind. She still can't get over the Senator's behavior and it was unsettling to learn Sache who was normally an optimist was worried as well.

But pushing down those thoughts her mind drifts elsewhere as she is reminded of the many Jedi who perished that fateful day. It was said only a few managed to make it with only minor injuries. Though she was careful to cover her tracks she had tried to learn the fate of the Jedi knight Kenobi. But nothing could be found, at least not until she finally returned to Coruscant late last night.

Then this morning to her relief and immense joy she learnt that her prayers were answered and the blessing indeed held its power. But despite the joy it brought she wanted to speak to him first hand to ensure he was recovering well, for she had heard the horrors of the events were tremendous. Taking advantage of the fact she was to report anything found pertaining to the droid armies to the council's representatives she decides to visit the temple directly instead of relaying a message.

As she climbs up the vast stairs the former decoy can't help but feel a little out of place in garbs that aren't related to her duties. But it was appropriate and suited her d, despite the fact she was grateful to for the opportunity to see her friend again. If only it could have been under brighter circumstances she inwardly sighs, bowing deeply out of respect before entering the massive temple.

There was no specific time she was to report her information and so with that in mind she takes advantage of the opportunity to find her way through the massive outer chambers as she catches the familiar signature that is Jedi Kenobi’s. Though careful to keep the walls of her thoughts tightly sealed she quietly focuses on his force beacon as is leads her to where he may be.

Just as the interposing emotions from Anakin were successfully blocked out, Obi-Wan felt an eager presence of a different source.

It was Sabé, to be sure.

Opening his eyes, a small smile graced his features at the thought of her. He concluded she was on her way to inform the Council of further security information or to be updated on Senator Amidala's situation, though he partially hoped she would have a few minutes to spare. After all, he was on leave for at least a week, or however long the senator was given seeing as how that would be when his padawan would return to Coruscant.

He reached out to pull his boots on, in case he might be able to catch up with her at some point.

She tries not to pay too much attention to her surroundings for the moment as she knows that she probably shouldn't be here. After all she knew that non-Jedi are only permitted access to the outer chambers of the temple itself. She was definately far from it, though she can only guess where exactly the Jedi knight was located. But his 'beacon' was growing rapidly stronger and she could feel the light tingle in her thoughts preparing her for his presence.

Stopping suddenly she stares at the door in front of her as inwardly she knows he is on the other side. Hesistant she glances around as she notices there are other doors all simular in design and in the same order down the hall. This isn't a sparring room or meditation chamber as she had assumed. It was the private quarters of the Jedi Knights and their padawans. She pales as she realizes her surroundings before her cheeks light up on fire.

Biting her lip, Sabe loses her nerve and begins to wonder if perhaps this was such a good idea after all. She can only imagine how terrible this is going to look, nevermind the rumors that would start to float around should anyone see her nevermind the sort of trouble it is certain to bring him with the council. This action could single handedly bring him a lifetime of dishonor. Stepping back she finds herself torn between duty and personal feelings leaving her frozen in position as she struggles with her thoughts.

After slipping on the other boot, Obi-Wan made to reach for his cloak, but decided against it. He did, however, take a quick glance in the mirror, running a hand through his hair before palming the door to his quarters open.

He sensed Sabé was near, but just how near, he hadn't been sure. Just a steps from his quarters, he spotted Sabé.

To see her wandering down the opposite hallway from where he was lodged was a surprise indeed. Although it did beg the question, just what in the blazes was she doing in the private quarters of the Jedi Knights and padawans... And why was she walking towards the private apartments on Master Shen-Jon?

Perhaps it was best not to pry, he thought, a bit saddened. He shook the feeling off and turned back to where he came from.

Sabe tries to return the direction she thought she came from, moving as quickly as she can hoping to slip away before anyone notices her. But the familar tingling that echoed in her mind seems to carry an air of sadness and it causes her to pause. Did something happen? Was he okay? Instincts take over and she turns around back in the direction that she initially was headed her expression turning to concern and then to surprise as she catches sight of Obi-Wan walking in the opposite direction.

She moves forward and stops. Should I risk it? She inwardly ponders before inwardly chastizing herself for having such a silly thought. After all she is already here and it would certainly be less embaressing to have him show her out rather then having ot explain herself to a random Jedi she doesn't know.

"...Master Kenobi?"

She shyly calls out not wishing to use his first name lest anyone hears and begins to grow suspcicious, as if her presence in these parts isn't suspicious enough already.

Or perhaps she was meeting with Master Drallig? His apartments were near Shen-Jon's. Obi-Wan shook the thoughts from his head. It was no matter. It shouldn't be a matter at all. Why was he thinking about this?

And before he had a chance to think anything further, he heard her calling out his name. Blast, I hope I didn't interrupt anything.

He felt a bit guilty as he turned to face her, but at the same time, he couldn't help notice she was out of her normal gear, wearing a form-fitting handmaiden gown of rich purple, her long hair, plaited and flowing down her back. She was the picture of elegance.

'Lady Sabé,' he replied, consciously aware of the formalities and not about to slip up.

He approached her, though not wanting to deter her from her duty. 'I am surprised to see you here.' Though it most certainly is a pleasure.

She tries to hide her embaressment as best she can though it is literally pouring off of her as she offers a sheepish apologetic smile. She senses a little of his surprise and she unconciously bites her lip as she bows politely to him in greeting. Careful to keep a professional appearance she approaches him politely.

"...I was on my way to report some intelligence that I located. But it would seem I have gotten a bit lost. I don't suppose you could show me back would you?"

She asks careful to keep appearances up though inwardly she wants to ask him how he is doing, to learn what happened and how he is managing. But she refrains for now feeling as though the walls have eyes and the doors ears.

'It would be my pleasure,' Obi-Wan replied, starting back down the hallway towards his quarters which were adjacent from the turbolifts.

The thought hit him that she knew exactly where and which floor to report such information and concludes she was actually on this floor for another purpose. As they pass his lodging, he can't help but tease her. 'And here I thought you were on this floor to meet up with one of the young padawans to distract them from their training.' His blue eyes twinkled as he teased her, hoping it wasn't too off-colour of him to say such a thing. He examined her profile carefully as they reached his quarters.

'Perhaps I could offer you a refreshment of some sort before I see you on your way?' He inwardly chided himself for being so bold. 'Unless of course, the matters you have to report are pressing--' he began to apologise.

She follows him quietly inwardly relieved that he hasn't said anything about her odd location or the fact she obviously was headed the wrong direction. But as they near his quarters he begins to tease her causing Sabe's cheeks to light up on fire as she opens her mouth to speak only to find she is speachless.

"...Master Kenobi!"

She gapes out finally before noticing his twinkling eyes as she realizes he is only teasing her. Her shock fades into embaressed amusement as she shakes her head at him pretending to be annoyed but all the while happy to see that he is well enough to be making jokes.

"You are perfectly terrible you know that Jedi Kenobi?"

She states trying not to smile as she folds her arms still careful to use proper titles. But at his invitation she can't help but turn a shy once more. Glancing at her hands briefly she debates how this will look and realizes it can't be any worse then it already appears. Returning to his attention she smiles.

"I would like that. But only if you are certain this won't interfere with your schedule or cause you any complications."

Or get you into trouble for having an outsider wander through the private dormitories of the temple looking for you she mentally adds.

He garnered the exact response he wanted from her and was pleased the teasing remark wasn't substandard. He bowed his head at her response, grinning.

Sobering at her next statement, he insisted, 'It's no trouble, really,' before palming the door to his quarters open.

It was as though they were both speaking in code; their words carrying more weight than outwardly apparant. He knew what she meant by 'complications' and was endeared that she would have thought anything of it.

He stepped aside so she would enter first. It was a good thing the Jedi weren't able to keep many material possession, or else he had a feeling he would need to tidy up.

As it was, the place was immaculate and as he entered after her, he listed off what few beverages were available on hand. 'Or stim tea? I'm afraid I haven't got much else here. I wasn't expecting company.' Not that it isn't a welcomed surprise. 'I just hope I'm not keeping you from you duties. I myself have at least this week off, depending on when the senator returns from Naboo. Anakin escorted her back, I assume for her to reassure her family of her safety as well as take a short recess from sentorial duties.' He realised he was rambling a bit and hadn't let her answer him about the beverage.

She laughs softly wanting to give him a playful swat but knowing that would be without question inappropriate. All the same his presence and lighthearted d is a welcome relief and for all intents and purposes he appeared to be fairly good health all things considered. She tries not to stare as he grins while bowing. Glancing away quickly she tries not think of how her heart just skipped a beat once more. Careful to keep her shields up she tries not to think too much about the possible consequences of her actions. She didn't want to get him into trouble or worse bring him dishonor. Even an innocent gesture such as tea could be regarded wrong if someone didn't know the facts, but he seems confident and insistant, which gives her some relief as she quietly enters thanking him as she does so.

Pausing at the enterance she glances around politely noting it's spartan setting with some curiousity. Another reminder that Jedi do not encourage attachments of any sort. A difficult path to travel she thinks, but one that must be quite fulfilling all the same. So why does it leave me feeling a little sad? Promptly pulling herself from her thoughts Sabe catches his offer for some tea and can't help but smile as he continues on. First apologizing for not having much to offer when it's more then enough, then apologizing for possibly keeping her from her duties and then explaining what is considered common knowledge for Padme's handmaidens.

If she didn't know any better she'd swear he is nervous. But whatever for? She inwardly muses as she can't help but ponder that this isn't what she had come to expect from the normally confident Jedi Knight. No doubt he has much on his mind she clarifies and if I had been through even half of what he's gone through these past weeks I would be too.

Her smile widens as she finally has her chance to speak.

"Some tea would be lovely.

Though I think I should be the one apologizing. After all I was the one who gave you no warning."

She turns a little sheepish as she realizes he isn't aware of the fact she is using her collected intel as an excuse to visit him. Not wanting him to feel out of place or as though he is being a distraction from her duties she politely explains.

"Actually, I came here to see how you were doing. I mean I do have some intel information about the droid armies but there is no specific time for the meeting I was just to drop it off when I could."

Her cheeks warm further as she motions to the door shyly.

"I...followed your...signature and thats how I ended up here....

It was true, Obi-Wan wasn't thinking clearly when it came to Sabé. It was only after she said she'd prefer tea that he caught himself, certainly she already knew about the senator's every move.

He was thankful she hadn't called him on his, what he realised was slight apprehension which melted into joy when she admitted she had really come to see him.

He set about fixing a cup of tea for the both of them. This specific kind of tea was preferred by Master Windu and quite a few senators as it aided in raising alertness.

Obi-Wan steeped the tea and moved to place the mugs on the table. He watched her as she motioned to the door. For an untrained Force-user, she was certainly talented. 'I have to admit, I am impressed that you were able to track me here,' he added with amusement, 'though I'm sure my address is listed in the database.'

He hadn't thought she would have security clearance for the Temple, but when she stated her ability to report whenever she found anything, it elevated her clearance what appeared to be permanately. That was a pleasant thought, for she would be able to wander in here whenever she desired. He avoided thinking about that, for it wasn't a productive nor appropriate thought. And for the first time in a very, very long time, he wished he didn't have to be concerned with such formalities.

After offering her the tea and a place to sit, he took a seat across from her, feeling as though the weight of the galaxy was off his shoulders when she was around. Her smile warmed his spirits. Obi-Wan didn't want to feel guilty about embracing this feeling. There was nothing in the Code that said anything about happiness.

And then his thoughts strayed to the Jedi of ancient times who married and had children...Ki-Adi-Mundi currently had more than one wife three? four? It certainly wasn't forbidden then. Why am I thinking about marriage? Thoughts of Anakin and Senator Amidala permeated his thoughts once more, but only briefly. The tea was certainly having an affect on his alertness to the Force. Naboo, he mused.

Once again his thoughts shifted to Sabé, even after ten years of seperation hadn't severed their connection, a connection forged somewhere between Tatooine and Naboo.

'Obi-Wan? How is it that you have this connection with me if we aren't Master and Padawan?' Sabé asked him quite innocently.

He stood on the balcony, watching the sunrise. At her query, the slightest flush reddened his cheeks as he turned to face her. 'I should think it has something to do with the way I've come to feel about you... and the way you feel about me.'

Her lips parted slightly as if she were about to speak, but before she had a chance to think of a response, with care, Obi-Wan slowly drew her into his arms, tilting his head slightly to kiss her tenderly on the lips.

She seemed to melt into his embrace and he relished the moment, not knowing if they'd ever have a chance like this again. After Qui-Gon's funeral, he would leave Naboo to begin training Anakin back on Coruscant.

Obi-Wan's cheeks flushed slightly at the sweet memory, wondering if they would ever be able to go back to that with everything happening around them. The Clone Wars have begun, or so Master Yoda said. Yet, as the years passed, he still cared deeply for her. He didn't know what the future would hold, but she was his constant. It was then he decided that he would feel this way forever, no matter what the future brought.

As he returns with tea in hand his remarks about her locating him through the force causes her to look sheepish but as he mentions about locating his quarters through the database her cheeks light up on fire. Glancing at her hands she remembers his words after their spar and realizes that he isn't the only one who felt the strong connection after all. Still she is embarrassed and a little shamed by her actions as innocent as they are and quickly she explains herself, mistaking his amusement for chiding.

“I assure you it wasn’t my intention to wander off to these parts. I had assumed I would find you in one of the meditation rooms or even a training hall. But I didn’t know where to begin, so I did as I did.”

She bites her lip.

“I’m terribly sorry, I really am. I have the utmost respect for your duties and the codes of your order Obi-Wan. Please believe me when I say I would never intentionally try to bring dishonor to your good name by placing you in such a position where your superiors would question it. “

But if he is offended by her words it doesn’t seem to show as he offers her some tea and motions her to sit. Sipping on the tea she finds herself growing pensive at the comfortable silence that has fallen between them. As always his presence calms and sooths her thoughts offering peace in place of the turmoil that has been her mindset since the bounty hunter attacks on the Senator.

She was once told years ago that the sight of a Jedi is considered an omen of the worse kind; for they were the hunters of trouble and chaos. What she didn’t know at the time and now had come to learn first hand, is that they only hunted trouble and chaos to restore the peace and harmony. She never thought she'd be so happy to see one in her life yet here she is with having tea with one and she couldn't be more content.

"And just when will you stop thinking of me as a Jedi and start thinking of me as a person?"

The memory slips into her mind and causes a smile to play on her features. She remembers feeling so embarrassed at the time but looking back she is glad things unfolded as it did. It almost seems like a lifetime ago now, and though everything seems to have changed for them both, this was one moment that would always remain theirs and theirs alone. Stirring from her thoughts she inwardly sighs, wishing things could return to how they were, but time is always moving forward and one had to learn to adjust.

So it is with thought that the former decoy comes to the conclusion she would always cherish the past, but she would never forget to embrace the present. Fate permitted their paths to cross once more and though much had changed their friendship remained strong. For despite the stirrings of her heart that must now remain dormant in the face of duty, Sabe will always be grateful for this unexpected chance to be reunited once more with the Jedi Padawan, now Knight who had stolen her heart all those years ago.

Pulling out of her thoughts she catches sight of Obi-Wan’s slightly flushed cheeks and wonders in horror if her musings over past memories had reached his thoughts. The walls were high in her mind but she knew it mattered little because of the bond that still lingered between them. Her own cheeks flush now as she distracts herself with the tea cup in her hand as she quickly remarks.

“This tea is lovely, what is in it exactly?”

She knows its only small talk but she is eager not to let the moment turn to awkwardness. Then turning more pensive and curious she can’t help but ask.

“If you don’t mind my asking, how are your wounds healing? I heard a little of what happened…”

And am so relieved and thankful to the gods that you are one of the few who made it relatively unscathed she mentally adds.

“Though I imagine you’d rather not speak about such things.”

She says quietly before adding with a warm smile.

“You have no idea how relieved I was to learn that you were okay.”

Being here with him, being able to have tea with no threats, no rushed time or intruptions is almost overwhelming for Sabe who tries to put everything about this moment to memory lest fate permit this to be their last.

“I’m terribly sorry, I really am. I have the utmost respect for your duties and the codes of your order Obi-Wan. Please believe me when I say I would never intentionally try to bring dishonor to your good name by placing you in such a position where your superiors would question it.“

When Sabé began apologising, he couldn't help smile. We ought to make a pact about all this apologising we do, he thought.

These intruding senses from Anakin intermingling with his own memories with Sabé were causing Obi-Wan to be quite confused. He didn't know whether these things were solely Ananki's and he was merely interpreting them through his memories and feelings for Sabé or it was something more...

Had he not been so overwhelmed by his own thoughts and memories, he would have been more acutely aware of Sabé's own.

Obi-Wan decided once again, only more firmly this time to push all of his padawan's feelings into a box, in a far corner of his mind, so as not to let it confuse him further.

And then the thoughts and feelings from Anakin were gone.

I have absolutely no idea what's in the tea exactly, only that it aids in alertness, he thought, but before he had a chance to speak, she continued.

'I am grateful you mentioned the healer at the Dojo, for the the Jedi healing trances are useful, they don't provide rehabilitation excercises. I have only met with the healer there once, but the excercises she suggested have proved quite useful.'

He paused to take another sip of tea.

'Never think that there is anything I would keep from you, Sabé,' he added in light of her deeply caring words about being thankful he was all right. Unlike his apprentice, Obi-Wan wouldn't shrug off a weighty remark such as this, bragging that he was invincible. Obi-Wan was wise enough to know that a statement like that was far from the truth. I am truly just so grateful to be sitting here with you that I would speak about anything.

'I expect they have been keeping you quite busy as well, hopefully within reason,' he added. Obi-Wan knew her position would put her into dangerous situations, either way, if what Master Yoda said would come to pass. Chances are, there would be an increase in spies and intelligence control. In some respects her job was much more dangerous than his. At least he saw his enemies face-to-face.

This thought didn't cause him to fear for her life or cause him to fear losing her. In striking contrast, he felt quite proud of her and her commitment to her duty. She was one of the most honourable ladies he had ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Obi-Wan boldly reached out to take her hand that was resting idly on the table, caressing its warmth and feeling it ascend within him. 'I know whatever tasks lie ahead, you are the most capable for the job.'

His smile instantly calms her fears and doubts as she relaxes once more grateful to know she hasn't offended him with what she fears to be questionable actions.

Once reminded of his ability to sense her thoughts Sabe makes a concious effort to bury them as best she could. For she did not wish to make him feel uncomfortable, or so she interpeted by his slightly flushed cheeks.

Though unaware of the tea's effect Sabe finds herself growing more concious of her setting and the one before her. It is subtle but enough for her to pick up on as though she was becoming more aware like waking up from sleep refreshed. It was nice. But at the same time she also began to pick up on Obi-Wan's slight confusion and it leaves her curious to know what could be the cause of it. However for the moment she doesn't speak of it out of respect unsure if she was even meant to notice it or not. She would not intrude on personal matters and feels a little awkward for sensing something normally she would never pick up on. Must be the tea she inwardly muses, has to be.

At his mention of the healer in the Dojo she smiles pleased to know that her ramblings of earlier did in the end prove to have some use.

"I'm glad I was able to be of some use, despite the fact I think I was more asleep then awake that day."

She says blushing slightly before adding with a wry smile as her eyes twinkle.

"Although I won't lie to you, you didn't look much better at the time either."

At the serious turn of discussion her expression softens as she studies him quietly for a moment taking in the weight of his words. It means more to her then she could guess he would know and bowing her head slightly in silent respect she replies with sincerity.

"I am honored. I hope you know that I feel the same way about you."

She smiles lightly at his words though she tries to hide her concerns for the situation at hand as best she can. She didn't want to ruin this rare moment of joy with outside troubles. After all she certainly spent enough time dedicated to it already.

"It isn't so bad, honestly I'm grateful to have been given this chance to serve my people in any way I can. I just wish I could do more."

She wistfully adds before giving him a more serious and slightly concerned look.

"Besides what I do is hardly anything compared to the risks you take every day. At least I can blend in the shadows and slip away, you have no choice but to face the enemy front on. That takes far more courage and strength then most believe."

But before Sabe can ponder on this further she feels his hand slipping over hers causing a shiver to run down her spine. His touch though gentle is electric and it causes the aura in the air to shift or perhaps it is just in her head she muses noting suddenly the room has gotten a little warmer.

She can't say if it is a Jedi mindtrick that makes her feels so peaceful suddenly or if it is the fact he is holding her hand but for the moment she doesn't mind nor care. A gentle smile crosses her features as he expresses his faith in her as once more his words moves her greatly. To recieve such a compliment from a warrior such as himself is high praise indeed and she is only too humbled by it.

"You honor me with your words."

She says shyly before gently adding.

"I hope I never prove your faith in me to be misplaced."

...despite the fact I think I was more asleep then awake that day.

Obi-Wan didn't think he would ever miss something she said, sleep-deprivation or no.

The blush on her cheeks did her complexion well, he concluded. And the twinkle in her eyes was a spark of youth unto itself. He didn't think it possible that his faith in her would ever be misplaced, not by a long shot. Her selflessness was to be admired. Even Anakin could learn something from her, he thought solemnly.

Certainly, in her line of work, people didn't commend her often for all her efforts, it was merely expected. Not that his way of life was far different. But the Jedi didn't use their powers or peace-keep in order for praise or recognition and he personally felt out of place at celebration ceremonies, such as the one after the Battle of Naboo. A slight look back at her reassuring smile was all he needed to release the anxiety at the parade.

"I hope I never prove your faith in me to be misplaced."

'I hope the same for myself,' he replied seriously though he was smiling. His thumb brushed over the top of her hand in unconscious patterns as he took another sip of tea. He vaguely wished he had some teacakes or something else to offer her, but was thankful for her company. His thoughts went unguarded as he thought of that idealistic future in which the galaxy would be at peace in the same way he felt when he was around her. I will cherish moments like these forever, he thought.

And instead of awkward, silences like these were full of a comforting depth and warmth. After a moment, he asked offhandedly, 'Have you seen the gardens here?' Certainly the other Jedi Masters wouldn't chide him for showing her the beauty of the different gardens and meditative spots they had here in the Jedi Temple. A few galactic royalty and on rare occassion the odd senator had been escorted there. He thought that the Garden of a Thousand Fountains would be a very nice place to take her, if she wanted.

His words and smile causes all concerns to melt away as her smile to soften. She wants to touch his cheek, to show some small gesture that his fears of her faith in him being misplaced is unnecessary. But she is a little hesitant fearful herself he may regard her gesture as being too bold so instead she replies with all the sincerity of her soul.

"Obi-Wan I have little doubt in my mind that you will ever falter in your duties. You are a good man who knows and understands his role of balance in both times of battle and times of peace. It is a rare trait to find, and something that should be cherished more then most realize."

She feels his thumb rubbing the top of her palm gently and it causes her thoughts turn scattered though she does her best to hide the starry eyed feeling that creeps into her soul. Once more the feeling that time is standing still threatens to overwhelm her as she unconcious she returns his simple gestures as her own thumb gently swirls circles under the palm of his hand. Her heart races but try as she might she can't deny that she hasn't been this happy since the day she first saw him again at the Dojo.

She picks up on his emotions feeling the rush of peace and joy pouring through her viens as she briefly wonders if they are her own. But it is unique of it's own accord and though it mirrors her own contented though she begins to realize it his thoughts. No longer able to hide her own gentle joy her expression takes on a look of blissful contentment as she wishes she could let down her guard and how him just how much she is enjoying this moment as well. But she knows the price would be too high and so she refrains hoping he senses enough from her to understand she is sharing his wistful joy.

The silence that falls between them seems to say more then words ever could and Sabe knows without question this moment would never leave her memories. That in the hours of turmoil to come she will always be able to retreat to this moment in her thoughts and be at peace. But after some time he breaks the silence gently without ending the moment as the Jedi knight only could as his question causes a smile to cross her features. She never was permitted to see the gardens and the thought causes her to be both curious and eager.

"I can't say I have, but I would love to, if you are permitted to show me that is"

She replies gently not wishing to trouble him but obviously interested at his offer.

'There are quite a few places that are often sparsley populated,' Obi-Wan informed her eagerly. 'And it's just after midday. Most of the elder Jedi Masters like to go there in the morning.'

Without second thought, still holding her hand, he rose from the chair. 'Shall we?' He grinned boyishly, though his motions were chivalrous.

She smiles to the offer as he explains the security of their situation eagerly. This was too good to pass up and besides when would she be able to ever experience a moment like this again?

Rising to her feet she subconciously realises his hand is still holding hers and it causes her cheeks to warm and her heart to race. But for some reason she doesn't hesitate or draw her hand away instead she returns his grin her eyes sparkling as his eagerness was contagious.

"If you are certain then who am I to argue?"

She motions with her free hand as she laughs softly.

"Lead the way!"

Obi-Wan pulled her up from the chair and headed towards the door. When he moved to palm the door open, he let go of her, but only to replace it on the small of her back as he escorted her out of his quarters.

Merely walking at a casual pace with the woman he cared for--loved--felt almost clandestine as they headed towards one of the finest gardens in the galaxy.

It was practical luminous all on its own, the various plants and vegetation, the sun peaking through at all the right spots, and the glorious fountains...the sunlight sparkling on each drop. It was splendid; one of the places he liked best on Coruscant, where such greenery was rare.

There was one spot in particular that he thought she'd like to see. After passing a couple of padawan Jedi walking and an elderly Jedi who sat crossed-legged meditating under a large tree, they wandered underneath a waterfall and to the other side of the garden which was the least populated. Obi-Wan speculated it was always so because it wasn't as beautiful as the rest of the Thousand Fountains, nor did it have the largest or best fountain.

'I like coming here,' he informed her, his voice low as they stopped in front of a spot that might seem familiar to Sabé, or so he hoped.

'This part of the garden reminde me of Naboo.' He finally looked over at her, to meet her eyes, abashed.

She tries to hide the mild dissipointment as he releases his hand from hers as he opens the door but the rush of joy promptly returns as she feels his hand briefly slip to the small of her back.

Though they appear to be just having a casual walk Sabe is painfully concious of herself and her presence in this place. She is careful to keep her thoughts and emotions firmly in check though with him so near it is difficult. But then she wouldn't change it for the universe itself.

As they enter the gardens Sabe is awestruck by it's beauty as she glances briefly to the Jedi knight by her side before returning her attentions back to the sight before her.

"I never knew there could be a place of such beauty here."

She whispers fearing that should she speak further the spell of this place would shatter. Following him in silence she remains breathless by the sights and barely even notices the Jedi they pass though her mindshields remain firmly intact.

As they approach the other side of the garden she intakes a sharp breath. It was as though they had stepped through an invisible portal of some sort and found themselves back near the lakesides of Naboo. Though it made her long for her home it brought Sabe much joy to see a piece of it here. At Obi-Wan's quiet words she smiles feeling her heart swell as it all seems almost over-whelming. She feels his eyes falling on her and without realizing she quietly returns his gaze feeling more then a little shy herself.

"It's perfect. Just like home."

She quietly whispers.

It had been awhile since he was last in this particular area of the gardens. With everything going on these days, there was little time to apprreciate the beauty of nature, let alone walk around here without the burden of weighty thoughts.

He hadn't purposely chose this place as his favourite. It was a day much like this when Qui-Gon had given him instructions to clear his thoughts that he wandered out here and it found him. After the Battle of Theed, thoughts of his former master's death and his battle with the Sith fresh in his mind, he had come here again and found this little space of Naboo comforting.

And her reaction--it was far better than he'd hoped.

When his eyes met hers in this place, he felt like they were planets and ages away, yet at the same time, keenly aware of their current time and surroundings. It was almost surreal.

The short fountain did an eerie splash higher than normal and at that moment, Obi-Wan leaned closer to her, asking in a murmur, 'May I kiss you?' There was far less security here than within the temple, and far less in the temple than in the senatorial buildings, since the Jedi were primarily their own security anyway. But this remote area, with the trees and shrubbery cloaking them, it was one of the safest places to pose such a question.

His gaze held her attention immediately as through it time and space seemed to dissipear so that there was nothing more then here and now. This beautiful piece of heaven and him. She hears the water splashing nearby and feels the soft breeze passing through the trees and plants around them. If there was indeed a heaven this place would be it.

She feels him leaning as she catches his scent so familar and yet so foreign. It causes her breath to catch as her heart begins to race and her hands to shake slightly as a shiver runs down her spine. Her eyes waver slightly as she tries to keep her emotions in check, but that is only too soon tossed to the wind as he quietly whispers the words she only heard from him in dreams long since forgotten.

With thoughts now scattered like sand in the wind she nods weakly though her cheeks promptly flush at her admitance. Inwardly she knows this could be dangerous for her even more so for him. But for the moment, just this moment everything seems so surreal that anything is possible and so she keeps her concerns to herself.

As if given approval for this by some Force spirit guide, Obi-Wan pulled back as she nodded her assent and leaned over to place a chaste kiss on her lips, for he was smiling too much for it to be much more than that, at the moment.

He moved back to study her face, his fingertips exploring the flawless features with careful, but with almost practiced ease as his free hand tenatively went to her waist. Just being able to hold her again was worth getting beaten severely by a Sith Lord.

Sobering, his thumb trailed over her bottom lip, as he took in everything about her appearance, so the image would stay with him for a lifetime. Urging her lips to part slightly, his hand retreats to her long, dark hair as he kisses her properly this time. There were no longer any walls preventing him from opening up fully to her. No mental blocks, no emotional guards, just this; this and the Force.

He drew back slightly and she felt her heart stop for a moment before he leans in kissing her lightly as she closes her eyes feeling his smile against her lips as her breath catches in her throat.

Hesitant she remains frozen in position fearful of this dream like moment ending should she move. His fingers lightly dance against her skin and she can feel the electricity dance between them, though she knows he would refer to it as the force. As his free hand slips around her waist she gains the courage to act upon her emotions as she slips one hand to his cheek while the other moves to his shoulder.

To be lost in your embrace...She doesn't know where this thought came from but it perfectly sums up the feelings that pour over her in a rush as her eyes seem to burn into his taking in his features putting them to memory as with everything about this moment. His eyes are so calm and yet they burn with emotions she realizes mirrors her own.

His thumb gently parts her lips causing Sabe to feels as though she is drowning in a sea of thoughts, feelings and affections she never thought she would ever feel again. The feeling is wonderous. But it is nothing compared to what followed.

For as his hand moves to her long hair and lips once more touch hers, this time properly she feels the rush of his emotions. His thoughts and feelings too pour through her mind filling her soul with such joy and completion the likes she has never known.

Without hesitance she too lets go, permitting her walls to crumble, letting the guards of her emotions fall away as she allows herself to fall into the serenity that that is them and the force that surrounds them.

The feel of her in his arms, the way she was holding him, the taste of her, the engulfing emotions pulsating between and around them was just so...perfect, Obi-Wan couldn't have imagined it.

It was simple, calming, almost meditative and it was a place he knew he would return to in his mind when everything else in the galaxy seemed to be spinning out of control.

The violence, frustration, and everything that was wrong simply ceased to exist here with her. It wasn't at all bittersweet, for he would carry it with him forever.

When they parted, his nose lightly brushed hers and he smiled down at her, still holding her close. He had never experienced such a reassuring, peaceful warmth as when Sabé was pressed up against him.

She felt lost and yet found in his embrace and she would have given anything to remain like this forever trapped between the heavens with the one who she could no longer deny held her heart. It is a moment she would cherish till the end of her days and beyond a memory she would return to for years to come in both rest and meditations.

If only it could last. Eventually after what felt like mere seconds but is much longer he pulls away slightly as his nose brushes against her causing Sabe to smile gently up at him feeling as though her heart would burst in joy. She couldn't believe this moment was happening and yet she wasn't about to deny either. Gently stroking his cheek she leans in unable to resist the urge to steal another kiss, when the sound of her commlink starts to beep. Sighing deeply Sabe feels reality suddenly crashing down on her with such weight she thought she would be crushed by it.

Heaven forbid I have one moment of peace she inwardly grouses before realizing that she just did. But with Obi-Wan there is no such thing as enough time though she does her best to cherish what little she can share with him.

The touch of her hand was so gentle and warm.

And then she was leaning in to kiss him again; a joy he would never forget.

The sound of the comlink ushered a slight feeling of resentment and regret. But then, he can't help resting his forehead against hers, their mutual sigh bringing them back to reality. 'Duty calls,' he whispered, before pulling back to tuck an errant strand of hair behind her ear. He offered her an encouraging smile, hoping there wasn't any bad news and that it wouldn't be the last he saw of her while he was on this short holiday.

Startled back into reality Sabe does her best to rein in her own agitation and annoyance but her deep sigh give her away as she closes her eyes briefly. However as Obi-Wan rests his forehead against her she feels the tension ebbing away as she smiles. Nothing seems as bad as it is when he is near she inwardly muses catching his whisper as she sighs again.

"...I'm sorry..."

She apologizes wishing there was some way around it but knowing that there isnt. As he slips a loose strand of hair behind her ear she leans in slightly to his touch gazing up at him one last time as she returns his smile before pressing the palm of her hand against his cheek gently.

"Hopefully it's nothing important."

She says wistfully before stepping away as she answers the chime.

"This is Sabe..."

The small holo-image activates as she instantly realizes it is highly encrypted and on a gold channel meaning it was sent by a high member of senate. As if on que Padme's image shimmers before her as the Senator greets her with a kind smile.

"Sabe you are harder to reach then I thought."

Sabe thanks the gods that holo-comms don't reveal such details as fiery cheeks.

"I'm sorry m'lady I was on my way to present some intel to the Jedi contacts. Is there anything I can help you with?"

She offers knowing this is the truth but careful to leave out the bit that she is quite far from her contacts at this moment. Padme's expression turns a little sheepish as she smiles.

"I understand. Actually there is a matter I need to speak to you about, in private that is. It isn't exactly urgent but it is definately time sensitive. When will you be back in your quarters?"

"I can return right away if you wish."

Padme's image seems to look relieved as she nods.

"Thank you I'd appriciate it. I don't feel comfortable talking about such things through your security commlink."

She admits as Sabe smiles in understanding though inwardly she sighs in dissipointment. So much for returning to the past she inwardly thinks as their discussion draws to a close. Returning back to Obi-Wan she offers an apologetic smile.

"It would seem the Senator wishes to speak to me in private concerning matters pertaining to her return to Naboo. I don't think it's anything serious. At least not from what I've gathered."

Her eyes turn sad as she is loathed to part from this place or more exactly from him. Glancing away she takes deep breath as she tries to center herself before returning her attentions to him once more as she takes his hand and gives it a squeeze her expression turning serious but kind.

"...Thank you. For everything."

It means more to me then you'll ever know she inwardly adds hoping that this rare moment of peace will not be their last.

'Don't apologise,' Obi-Wan replied, reaching up to touch the hand she'd placed on his cheek.

When she steps away to answer the comlink, he was surprised to find her portable coms to have a holoprojector. The Jedi comlinks were just tiny things. Sure they had a security device to prevent unauthorised use, an encoding selector, silence projector, and sound reproduction matrix, but nothing so fancy as what the senatorial staff obviously had. He considered asking the other Jedi about this, but then figured Jedi get by on what is necessary, not what is the newest and most popular.

He was not without earshot and could hear the senator's voice, only detecting the slightest bit of eagerness, not aprehension which was reassuring. He watched Sabé until she turned back to him. 'I understand,' he replied when she said she was needed.

When her eyes were downcast, he took a step towards her. She took his hand and he squeezed back, replying, 'Thank you, Sabé.'

He had a flicker of inspiration to pull her back and kiss her again, but withholds the urge, not wanting to keep her from her duties. Still open to her, he received the sense of how much it meant to her and hoped she knew he felt the same.

As she speaks with the Senator she can almost feel his eyes watching her and it does little to lessen the color in her cheeks. Thankfully this isn't visible through the holoprojector and the relief is evident in her thoughts as well as the fact the Senator wouldn't be able to see her surroundings. Though with that thought comes a hint of guilt, she knows she hasn't done anything wrong but she still fears for Obi-wan's good name.

Upon her return to him Sabe can't help but smile sheepishly as he squeezes her hand back his words instantly warming her spirit as she glances up at him. Though the lingering connection she senses his silent urge to kiss her and mirrored emotions that match her own. She knows she must leave though she is loathed to. But taking a chance her eyes sparkle as she leans in and gives him a quick kiss before drawing back as she feels her cheeks starting to warm again at her bold actions.

"If it's alright if you, could you show me the way out. I don't remember exactly how to get out of the temple from this point."

Seeing the slightest hint of mischievousness in her eyes, he was not all that surprised when she gave him a quick kiss.

He found he liked the colouring in her cheeks that her bold actions caused, though knowing he was just as bad; their old and yet newly found affection certainly seemed to have that effect.

'Of course, my lady,' he said, a twinkle in his own eye as he winked at her.

He had to make a conscious effort not to walk too close to her on their way back inside, for fear of ruining her reputation should anyone think their behaviour inappropriate and the mental blocks from everyone--except her--went straight back up again. Little did he know, he would have a hard time keeping anything from her for a long time. Not that he would have anyway.

Back indoors, he escorted her to the transports so she could return to her quarters in the sentorial sector of Coruscant.

Now that she had come to her "senses" Sabe's cheeks light up on fire as she murmurs a softly apology trying to say she didn't know what overcame her though it is obvious enough. But to her relief the sparkle in his eyes and his wink tells her he isn't the slightest bit offended by her brazen actions.

As they return she is careful to keep her shields up as well though she can't help but enjoy the silent subtle connection shared between them. Though she knows they are acting as properly as one expects she still feels painfully concious of his presence and hopes no one sees any unspoken connection or subtle gesture that would considered inappropriate. Yet in the same thought she enjoys the peace his nearness offers and once more puts it to memory along with all the events of the quiet moment shared.

As they approach the transports she inwarldy sighs, everything good much come to an end she muses as she turns to face Obi-Wan once more casting him a polite smile though for a moment her eyes speak the volumes she can't say.

"Once again, I would like to thank you. May our paths cross once more, and soon."

She says kindly hoping against hope that fate would permit such an even to occur.

They didn't need words, since it was nearly impossible now to rebuild the walls. Obi-Wan felt her sentiments and saw them in her eyes.

He bowed slightly to her in polite reverence before saying, 'May the Force be with you.'

Obi-Wan took a step backwards, watching the transport leave before turning away. It took quite an effort to keep his thoughts guarded as he made his way through the Temple. He felt as if a weight had been taken off his shoulders, that his thigh injury wasn't stiff at all, and there was almost a bounce in his step as he headed back to his own quarters.

She smiles at his words as she bows slightly in reply as well.

"May the Force be with you as well."

She says gently before quietly stepping into the transport as she sighs contented. No matter what happens now she surmises, this day will never be forgotten. As she quietly returns to her own quarters Sabe can't help but realize that it has been years since she has last felt so at peace with herself and with the universe.
