Phantom Menace: Pre Battle of Naboo
With the Ears of a Hare
Initially she didn't mean to listen in on the discussion, while tactics
had always been a bit of an interest for Sabe the decoy knew it wasn't
her place to be a part of this planning. For now all she had to do was
wait for her next orders. But it was hard to remain still when all she
wanted to do was join in the action, to move quickly and ensure that no
more innocent lives were sacrificed because of this madness.
So for the moment she remained poised and silent as other mingled and moved around her. Sabe's eyes ever watchful in the direct of her queen though she knew in that moment no threat was being posed. At least not yet. However if she were truly aware of her subconcious thoughts there was another reason for her studious gaze although for the moment this went unnoticed as she picked up tidbits of their conversation pertaining to their plan of attack.
From what she could hear the tactics used were to be simple but effective. The element of surprise was to be the key here as well as the deception of the decoy armies. Both now rapidly becoming trademarks for the Queen line of offense. Should it prove successful it would bring an abrupt end to the barricade of the trade routes to Naboo. But just as this thought occured to her another thought crossed her mind and as if on cue Sabe could barely make out Obi-Wan's voice expressing the very concern that had just entered her thoughts.
With baited breathe Sabe waited to hear her Queen's response in hopes she would have some sort of back-up plan to ensure this didn't become a reality. But to her shock her mistress completely dismissed the idea entirely leaving Sabe more then a little shaken and much to her shame annoyed. Surely she wasn't so confident with this course of action to not even consider all the possibilities? The decoy inwardly mused in shock.
No longer did she listen to the rest of the conversation as Sabe inwardly warred with herself. The Queen has a lot on her mind right now, her people are starving to death and are dying by the thousands in the camps. Now she has to lead on a full edged assault into her own palace all the while trying establish an alliance with the Gungans, can I really blame her for being so on edge? She inwardly reminded herself yet still unable to resist feeling defensive for her friend.
It was then she decided that with her Queen already heavily pre-occupied that such a duty should logically fall upon her. So that if gods forbid the situation did take such a turn they would have something to fall back upon.
Quietly she moved away from the group that surrounded her for the moment as she let her thoughts wander mentally going through what she knew of the Palace's security and the of the hidden rooms and halls that she was certain the Viceroy wouldn't be aware of. After all outside of Captain Panaka, Tame the Queen and her handmaidens it wasn't exactly known knowledge. As it's sole purpose was for such situations of this and all ultimately led to the many hangers the surrounded the Palace outer walls.
If I were the Viceroy and in need of a quick escape which route would I take she mentally plotted as she briefly closed her eyes picturing the layout of the Palace and the routes that would normally be used for escapes. Two exits came to mind and Sabe began to think of how to cut them off to ensure their arrival would ensure the Viceroy and his allies were boxed in. Unfortunately nothing substancial came to mind although she did take into consideration that given Panaka's access to the security perhaps there could be a way to shut down the power in those parts of the building thus sealing the doors.
While the plan seemed plausible there were still some holes from which their enemies could slip through if they knew where to look. After all de-activating the power would mean they'd have to get fairly close to the region near to the throne room as that would was the only hidden office she was aware about; the remaining ones would be probably be heavily guarded and expecting such a course of action. In the end she found this course of action to be the more probable choice. For thoughts of placing tracking devices onto the Viceroy's ship was too implausible and attempts of reactivating defence shields around Naboo too unrealistic.
As the meeting drew to a close Sabe found herself lingering hoping perhaps to find a way to draw the younger Jedi's attention without appearing too obvious. It wasn't that she wanted another chance to speak to him before the battle (or so she told herself) but rather in hopes for the oppertunity to discuss her alternate plans in response to his concerns.
When the plotting concluded, Obi-Wan casually glanced over at Boss Nass, only to catch the look of Sabé Nabish, decoy queen to Amidala's court. He couldn't help the smile growing on his face as he looked on her.
He quietly took his leave as Qui-Gon spoke with the Gungan leader and slipped over to where Sabé stood robed in regal colours. The security officer didn't look at him twice before speaking with a female member of their team. He grasped his hands in front of him, though he really wanted to know the feel of her hand in his own once again, to feel that tingling sensation, if only to pinpoint the cause of it.
'Nice hair,' he remarked casually, hoping to draw a grin from her and to lighten the brooding d that seemed to engulf everyone around them. He relished the fact Qui-Gon was absolutely stunned to find out Padmé was the real queen.
