The Old Empire/The Skywalker Dynasty
The Coruscanti Empire was founded in 25,000bby, at the signing of the Galactic Constitution. The Empire brought about the end of endless wars between different states and planets. It originally consisted of the Core Worlds (prestigious, well-developed, well-known, and heavily populated planets such as Coruscant, Chandrila, Tython, Ossus).

The Constitution invested executive powers in the General Ministry and Galactic Senate, legislative powers in the Galactic Senate, and judicial powers in the Supreme Court and the Regional Courts. It placed the Empire's capital at Coruscant, set its official language as Galactic Basic Standard, and made its official currency the Galactic Credit Standard. It stated the President of the Senate (later Supreme Chancellor) as answered to the Emperor (also acting Head of State and Head of Government and the Minister of Defense as Commander-in-Chief). The Senate was granted the authority to levy a military and to regulate trade.

During the early years, the Jedi were brought in to the Empire to encourage the peaceful government, protecting it from violence.

Being a senator was a highly prestigious position. Often the rulers of various planets would also act as the imperial representative in the Galactic Senate or appoint a representative to act as their liaison. The Galactic Senate was primarily composed of the aristocratic, rich, and politically influential individuals. As the Empire grew more powerful, many of the bureaucrats and senators became increasingly corrupt or complacent. The bureaucracy grew and festered over a millennia, choking any attempts of a proactive government. Patron politics and personal agendas also hampered effective governing, and due to the capitalist nature of the Empire, corporations like the Trade Federation.

A constant threat to peace was the expanding Hutt Empire. For this reason, the gradual expansion of the Coruscanti Empire grew steadily in number as more and more systems wanted to escape the oppression of the Hutts. Emperor Cliegg Skywalker sent Jedi to Tatooine in order to free the people and what was left of the sovereignty from the oppression of the Hutts. He succeeded and married the Princess of Tatooine to complete the inclusion of Tatooine into the Empire.

Several of the Imperial star systems and commercial organizations, fed up with the corruption and widespread capitalism in the Empire, united in order to separate from the Empire. This unified front became known as the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Tensions between the Empire and the Separatists eventually escalated into all-out war and the Clone Wars began.

Emperor Cliegg granted Palpatine emergency powers to deal with the Separatist Confederacy. The Empire had not previously needed an army. Any small conflicts within the Empire had been resolved by Jedi or local militias. Because the Confederacy had access to an enormous army of droid soldiers, the Empire was forced to construct a more formal federal military in order to effectively fight.

In the ensuing years, the emperor gave more power to Palpatine, who became the war's political Commander-in-Chief. Such actions were justified in the name of security, and eventually Palpatine did not need the approval of the emperor for many of his actions. Since the Chancellor held the loyalties of a vast majority of the senate, this was considered a perfectly reasonable way to increase the wartime government's efficiency.

Tension between Palpatine and the Jedi began to grow, as the war progressed. Many members of the Jedi Council remained sceptical of Palpatine's growing powers, especially at the expense of the senate. Emperor Cliegg Skywalker, also began growing suspicious of Chancellor Palpatine’s growing influence over the senate and secretly allied himself with the Delegation of 2000 (members including Mon Mothma, Bail Antiless, Padmé Amidala) instead of dismissing or openly challenging Palpatine.

The Vader Dynasty
When Anakin Skywalker, also know as Darth Vader, inherited the Coruscanti Empire, his wife, Dormé, and he instated a new order. Chancellor Palpatine had already started the work of dissolving the senate's influence on the decisions made. Now, in place of a Supreme Chancellor, Empress Dormé created new laws.

Soon the senate, which was merely a puppet senate under the Supreme Chancellor, dissolved into an autocracy, run by Their Imperial Majesties.

After they slaughtered the Separatist leaders, Emperor Anakin wiped out the Jedi Order single-handedly and destroyed the Sith (in the form of his mentor, Darth Sidious). Thusly, Vader brought balance to the Force just as the Jedi prophecy said.

Empress Dormé's first act, after the resolution of the senate, was the banishment of slave traders. Slavery of any kind was dealt with the harshest punishment. She freed slaves and mandated child labour laws. She then began the process of de-nuclearizing and disarming planets in order to promote peace in the galaxy, leaving them defenseless to the new government and the Hutts. Only the Coruscanti army was armed to enforce their order...

The Vader dynasty made its mark on Galactic History as the most well-structured and ordered government in centuries. However, it was also the most bloody. Expansion continued throughout their reign.

The Imperial Coat of Arms

Under the old Skywalker Dynasty, the circles represent uniting star systems and planets. The top read 'Skywalker' in Basic, with the motto 'for the people'.

The Vader Dynasty bears the motto 'with my beloved, I enforce peace' and the flowering Nabooan waterflower, naceae. This beatiful, aromatic flower is deadly if ingested.
